How the Danish public sector supports open source - how open source supports the public sector

Christian Lanng

Open source in the Danish public sector is not only about whether to use appliction X or operating system Y. It is much more concerned with creating value, reducing costs and gaining control, through strategic use of open source. A use that spans the range from engaging in collaboration with big vendors such as Apache and Microsoft to releasing software on the Danish Software Exchange, Softwarebørsen.

You will hear about projects such as NemHandel, Softwarebørsen and OIO-Kataloget.

OSDChristian Lanng is head of the IT Infrastructure and Implementation Division in the National IT and Telecom Agency. The IT Infrastructure and Implementation Division is running several open source projects e.g. NemHandel and eKalender.

Christian Lanng has beyond his background as an IT-entreneur also a sociological background, and he believes strongly that IT solutions should take intro account and meet the users - not the other way around.
