In this talk, I'll take a selection of common programming problems and demonstrate how they can be most neatly solved in Perl 6. And not just any Perl 6, but Perl 6 that you can run today on Rakudo!
No prior knowledge of Perl 6 is required; all syntax used will be explained along the way.
Originally from England, Jonathan Worthington has been working with Perl for over 8 years. Raised in the north of England where the cold and wet climate was conducive to learning to program, he later ventured south to study computer science at the University of Cambridge. There they forged him down the dark and mysterious paths of compilers, language design, formal semantics and type systems.
Despite his theoretical computer science interests, Jonathan is at heart a real programmer. He is heavily involved in the implementation of Rakudo, today's most complete Perl 6 compiler. In the past, he has worked on bytecode translation from .Net to Parrot as well as Parrot internals.
Away from computing, Jonathan is interested in natural languages and is a serial traveler, guilty of using Perl workshops as an excuse to visit lots of new countries and soak up their scenery and culture...and beer. As a Christian, he is also involved with the church, and in the past has done voluntary youth work and written worship songs.
