These days most computers come with multiple cores. To get the benefit from the cores programs needs to be run in parallel. Parallel is a small tool that makes it easier to run programs in parallel from the command line or in shell scripts. It can often serve as a replacement for xargs and 'while read'-constructs.
The presentation will show examples of using parallel.
The audience is assumed to know how to write small scripts in Bash.
